The Centres of Excellence at the IIMA are specialised research hubs dedicated to advancing knowledge in critical areas that significantly impact industry and society. These centres foster a multidisciplinary research ecosystem, promoting innovation and addressing emerging challenges. By facilitating cutting-edge research, they serve as knowledge hubs for academia, policymakers, and both the public and private sectors.

Each centre focuses on a specific domain, contributing to IIMA’s mission of academic excellence and societal impact. These centres are instrumental in addressing pressing challenges, driving groundbreaking research, and contributing valuable insights to the broader academic community. They foster a culture of innovation and discovery, ensuring IIMA’s enduring legacy as a hub of knowledge and innovation. India Gold Policy Centre (IGPC)

The India Gold Policy Centre (IGPC) was set up in November 2014 with a grant from the World Gold Council. It is a centre of excellence, conducting cutting-edge applied research on the Gold Industry in India, that provides insights and suggests ways the findings can be put into execution for bringing reforms in the Indian gold market. As a think tank, it strives to impact policies and practices in the gold ecosystem through research, engagement, policy recommendations and training.

NSE Centre for Behavioral Science in Finance, Economics and Marketing (CBS)

The NSE Centre for Behavioral Science was established in March 2020. at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, with a grant from the National Stock Exchange of India Ltd. The first-of-its-kind in a management institution in India, the CBS aims to build a cross-disciplinary platform for conducting and disseminating research grounded in neuro-scientific and behavioural knowledge across diverse fields of management, including but not limited to finance, economics, marketing, organisational behaviour and human resource management.

Misra Centre for Financial Markets and Economy

Financial Markets play an important role in the Indian economy. The study and analysis of financial markets require high-quality data, research, and insights to engage in the debate and influence policymakers, institutions, and other stakeholders. In this context, the Misra Centre for Financial Markets and Economy, set up at IIMA, is a Centre of excellence, conducting research on the financial markets and economy in India. This Centre provides the impetus for focused research, teaching, and knowledge dissemination on contemporary issues related to financial markets within the overall economic framework.

Centre For Digital Transformation

The Centre for Digital Transformation focuses on activities that enhance an understanding of the digital ecosystem and catalyse leadership, as it leverages its expertise in research and development to provide thought leadership for digital transformation. Through research, training programmes, workshops and seminars, the Centre creates and shares insights that show the way forward through all the complexities that India presents.

Ashank Desai Centre for Leadership and Organisational Development

The Ashank Desai Centre for Leadership and Organisational Development aims to bring together faculty, students, as well as governmental, non-governmental, and private organisations to conduct distinctive and high-quality leadership and organisational development research. The centre plans to drive research in various themes related to leadership development and offer training, research and consulting services to leaders at various levels in Indian and multinational organisations. The centre aims to conduct research and knowledge development in the following broad areas.

Brij Disa Centre for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence

The Brij Disa Centre for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (CDSA) at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) provides a common platform to faculty, scholars, and practitioners for conducting and disseminating cutting-edge research on data analytics and artificial intelligence that offers solutions applicable to business, governance, and policy. Besides generating action-oriented insights, CDSA is also responsible for the dissemination of the knowledge generated to a wider audience both within and outside the realm of the Institute. Seminars, workshops, and conferences are regular activities at the Centre, which are conducted to reach out to and engage with stakeholders.

Arun Duggal Centre of Excellence for ESG Research (CESGR)

The Centre for Sustainability and Corporate Governance Research (CSCG) at IIMA has been set up to contribute to the development of the nascent ESG ecosystem in India and help Indian enterprises and organisations integrate ESG into their core business and investment decisions. In doing so, the Centre shall contribute to the transition of businesses towards the future of capitalism defined by stakeholder orientation with a focus on long-term enterprise value, shared societal prosperity, and a sustainable relationship with the planet.

Centre for Transportation and Logistics (CTL)

The IIMA Centre for Transportation and Logistics (CTL) will address critical passenger and freight transportation and logistics challenges in India through an integrated, multidisciplinary program of research, post-graduate and executive education, technology transfer, and policy advice for enhancing the mobility of people and goods. The objective of the CTL is to contribute to improving the efficiency of multi-modal transportation systems and supply chain logistics, thereby promoting economic growth and fostering sustainable development.

Centre for Management of Health Services (CMHS) Supported by PGP 1994 Batch

The Centre for Management of Health Services (CMHS) is one of the oldest centres at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA). It was set up in June 2004 with the support of PGP 1994 in recognition of IIMA’s contributions to the health sector in the past and the felt need to strengthen the management of the health sector in the context of socio-economic developments of our country. The overall objectives of CMHS are to address the managerial challenges in the delivery of health services to respond to the needs of different segments of our population efficiently and effectively, to build institutions of excellence in the health sector, and to influence health policies and wider environments.

Madan Mohan Mohanka Centre of Excellence in Case Method of Learning

IIM Ahmedabad has set up the Madan Mohanka Centre of Excellence in Case Method of Learning (MMCoECML) to strengthen the case pedagogy. The case method has been integral to IIMA’s pedagogical approach since its inception. This new Centre has been established to further that legacy through structured faculty training, support for case development and dissemination, and outreach via conferences and research. The Centre is named in honour of Mr Madan Mohan Mohanka, PGP 1967 and Chairman, TEGA Industries, who has made significant contributions to management education and industry.

Gender Centre

The Gender Centre at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, inaugurated in October 2018, epitomises the institute’s commitment to advancing scholarship on women and gender equality. As a distinguished entity, it stands as a bastion of academic and practical excellence, rigorously exploring the multifaceted dimensions of gender-related issues and championing inclusivity across all spheres of life. Uniquely positioned as the sole gender-focused centre within a management institution in India, the Gender Centre spearheads pioneering research, generating transformative insights and setting benchmarks for best practices in gender equality. Our interdisciplinary expertise is at the forefront of empowering organisations to develop robust, evidence-based strategies, thereby fostering an environment where the empowerment of women is a strategic imperative. By synthesising academic rigour with practical relevance, the Gender Centre aspires to shape a future where gender equality is not merely an ideal but a fundamental organisational ethos, driving sustainable and inclusive development.

Centre for Innovation and Incubation (CIIE)

Built at IIM Ahmedabad in 2002 as an entrepreneurship centre and incorporated in 2007-08 as a section-8 company, IIMA Ventures (Formerly known as IIMA-CIIE) is the innovation continuum that studies, educates, incubates, accelerates and invests in early-stage startups, aspiring entrepreneurs and investors. The academic centre – CIIE – hosts a variety of courses and project courses on innovation and entrepreneurship for students. IIMA Ventures has mentored over 7000 founders, accelerated over 1500 startups, provided catalytic capital to over 700 companies, and inspired over a million people with our 400+ publications. It has been a pioneer on multiple fronts, including India’s first accelerator – iAccelerator, India’s largest idea scouting competition – The Power of Ideas, India’s first climate fund – INFUSE Ventures, India’s biggest platform for inclusive fintechs – Bharat Inclusion Initiative, India’s first entrepreneurship bestseller – Stay Hungry Stay Foolish, and many more.IIMA Ventures is recognised as a Centre of Excellence by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

The Kamla Chawdhry Communications Hub

The Kamla Chowdhry Communications Hub, named after its first faculty member, Professor Kamla Chowdhry, was set up in 2022 to honour her outstanding contribution to IIMA’s growth and success. The Hub functions as a unified unit serving the Institute’s and all of its internal and external stakeholders’ needs. One of its top priorities is to significantly enhance the IIMA brand globally. Its mandate includes bringing in best practices and innovative ideas to assist the Institute in communicating, engaging, and influencing in the ever-changing digital world.
