Chhavi Moodgal

( CEO, IIMA Endowment Fund )

Chhavi Moodgal is the Founding CEO of IIM Ahmedabad Endowment Fund – the unified fundraising and philanthropic arm of IIMA. The Vision of the IIMA Endowment Fund is to help solidify IIMA’s prominence in thought leadership, research and academic excellence globally by supporting it through philanthropic contributions from alumni, corporates and multilateral agencies; as well as focusing on assisting the Institute in deployment / management of funds and donor reporting. Chhavi took on this role in January 2021 and has since set up the team, processes, frameworks, products of the endowment and also grown the contributions substantially.
Chhavi has spent 18 years in the financial services industry – across investment banking, asset management and entrepreneurship.
Before joining IIMA, Chhavi was the Group Chief Strategy Officer at InCred – a diversified financial services firm in Mumbai with a presence in personal and MSME lending, wealth management, asset management and investment banking. Chhavi prepared the business plans and oversaw the set-up of the wealth and asset management businesses and also closed 2 M&A deals in her stint with InCred – one in personal loans and the other in asset management; evaluating several other opportunities for organic and inorganic expansion. Chhavi also participated with the Founder in business reviews, credit reviews and worked on P&L strategies as well as investor relations reports in discussion with the CFO’s team.
Prior to InCred; in 2015, Chhavi co-founded Scient Capital along with her husband – a boutique asset management firm with a focus on fixed income and, also led the company as CEO and Executive Director. Scient ran a PMS and an AIF in structured credit and also provided advisory services to treasuries and HNIs. The business is currently professionally run. As CEO, Chhavi’s role involved overseeing investment management, fundraising through family offices and HNI clients, managing distribution channels, strategy definition and execution along with management of diverse stakeholders – clients, shareholders, key employees, investee companies and regulator (SEBI).
Prior to this entrepreneurial stint, Chhavi spent a decade in investment banking across capital markets, M&A and Private Equity in large banking institutions such as Standard Chartered, UBS and Kotak. She still enjoys relationships with her erstwhile clients and within the investor fraternity and has worked on deals with corporates such as L&T, IDFC, MindTree, Raymond, Bharti Group, Apollo Tyres amongst others. Investment banking helped Chhavi hone her skills in execution of time bound and strategic projects as well as focus on process management from a regulatory perspective.
Chhavi has a degree in Economics (Hons) from Lady Shri Ram College of Delhi (Gold Medal) and an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad (PGP 2004).
She believes in continuously pursuing excellence, learning and growing and giving her best to whatever role she undertakes.
She was recognised by AIWMI as one of the "40 under 40" in 2018 and in 2019, she was the Winner of the Award for "Thought Leader in Investments" at the India Wealth Awards.
